A Structurally Correct Outline vs. An Interesting Outline

As a story editor, it is important to distinguish between a structurally correct outline and an interesting outline. Not all structurally correct outlines are interesting but all interesting outlines are structurally correct outlines. The relationship between context and content is similar with the differentials between text and subtext. What makes a sentence interesting is the inherent emotional value hidden between the words. Sometimes, there is no need to showcase cheap gimmicks to send the coded message of fear, laughter or tears.

What makes an outline structurally correct is the soundness in its waves and movements. Imagine the waves of the sea and a ball moving within. Seeing the waves and the movements of the ball, one is given the opportunity to analyze the inherent forces that affects the waves and the ball. Is the ball moving the waves or are the waves moving the ball?

This is a metaphor that I encountered as I was gearing up to become a story editor in animation. A module once stated the importance of watching the movements and the waves.  Understanding the principle that drives the waves and the movements of the ball reveals the inherent structure whether or not the ball is moving through the waves.
